Getting Towers of Hanoi ready…

About this game

How to play

  1. Tap a peg to pick up its top disc, then tap another peg to drop it.
  2. You can't put a bigger disc on top of a smaller one.
  3. Rebuild the whole tower on the right-hand peg.

Three levels

  • Easy: 3 discs — best is 7 moves.
  • Medium: 4 discs — best is 15 moves.
  • Hard: 5 discs — best is 31 moves.

What this teaches

To move a tower of 4, you first move a tower of 3 out of the way — and that needs a tower of 2 to move first. Breaking a big problem into the same smaller problem is called recursion, and it's how computers solve many puzzles.
